The UNIQKIDZ Camp, a three-day non-residential camp, is an annual initiative organised by NTU Hall of Residence 1 for underprivileged children.

This most recent edition held from 18 – 20 December was conducted in NTU and Labrador Nature Reserve, and involved a total of 65 children and 101 student volunteers. The theme of the 2017 camp was Mystique, and participants were divided into four groups – each represented by a mythical creature – Phoenix, Aquila, Ursa and Draco. The storyline of the camp revolved around the appearance of a villain – Nightmare – and involved all four groups working together to defeat their enemy.

Throughout the camp, the children participated in various games aimed at challenging and encouraging them to overcome obstacles along the way. These activities were also organised with the intent of helping the children recognise and celebrate their abilities, and to boost their self-esteem and confidence levels. Important values such as sportsmanship, integrity and resilience were also emphasised throughout the camp in hopes that these values will guide them in future.

Watch the highlights of the camp below.

“It was very heartwarming to see the kids mature so much during the camp. I hope that they learn to defeat their own nightmare and stand up strong, even though things may not always go their way.” Danielle Koh Wen Jing, Co-Chairperson

About UNIQKIDZ

The UNIQKIDZ Committee comprised of likeminded residents of NTU Hall of Residence 1, and as the name of the camp itself suggests, the committee believe that every child is unique and special in their own ways, and hopes that this camp will help to nurture self-appreciating children and empower young individuals who recognise that their actions are impactful, regardless of their size.

In addition, the committee also hopes to increase involvement of student volunteers in community involvement projects targeted at the underprivileged children community, and that the camp will become a platform for participants and student volunteers alike to learn the importance and value of giving back to the society.
