The WSC Community Service Day is a two-day event that involves food collection, distribution and a carnival for low-income families residing in Boon Lay and Pioneer.

Organised and lead by WSC’s Internal Relations Committee, the committee also consisted of representatives from the NTU Motoring Club, international students in NTU, the Boon Lay and Frontier CC Youth Executive Committees, and students from Jurong West Secondary School. The committee met regularly to brainstorm on the organisation of the event and the activities involved. Given the nation’s aim of nurturing an active and healthy society, the theme for Community Service Day 2018 was decided to be “CAREnival”, and consisted of activities that embodied different elements of healthy living.

During the event, the team rotated themselves between stations and the 250 beneficiary attendees, while they caught up with familiar faces through light-hearted conversations. The team was happy to see that participants were actively engaged and benefitted from the informative and helpful activities.

Watching the smiles of participants as they left when the event came to an end was bittersweet. The team was grateful for the opportunity to have made an impact on the lives of their beneficiaries and hoped their legacy would continue.

“Being part of the planning committee really helped me learn a lot from my experience. I was the coordinator between Internal Relations and NTU Motoring Club and it is heartening to see how their involvement has increased through our collaboration over the years.” Yeo Jing Ni, Logistics Officer
