Organised annually by NTU Hall of Residence 7, Seven Overseas Expedition 2018 saw a team of 20 volunteers embarked on a 15-day expedition (16 – 30 July 2018), to lend their support for the ongoing project located in Phong Thanh Village.

At the village, the team participated in various activities – from construction to teaching to cooking. It was an eye-opening experience for the team to witness the daily life in a rural village environment. Despite their short stay, strong bonds with the villagers and the Vietnamese volunteers were forged.

“We toiled under the elements, lived, loved and laughed over the moments we shared together, slowed down from the fast pace of the city, and started to listen to one another. Initially, Seven Overseas Expedition (SOE) was not what I had intended for, nor was it an idea that I was inclined towards. The experience that SOE provided for me was one which could not be replaced by anything else. I forged new bonds and strengthened old ones.”Amos Kwek, Participant
