Project Ngam is a Youth Expedition Project under the School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences (SPMS) in NTU.

The project was so named because ‘Ngam’ means ‘beautiful’ in Lao language, and this is aligned with the team’s goal of leaving both their members and the villagers in Laos, with beautiful and fond memories at the end of their service-learning.

The team assisted the villagers in the expansion of their school compound and built a beautiful and conducive place for play and learning. They also taught lessons in school – including Character and Moral modules and basic English, Mathematics and Science subjects.

In order to engage the students with the basics of different Science disciplines (Physics, Chemistry and Biology), the team conducted hands-on experiments such as the rocket experiment to teach how different launch angles create different trajectories.

Overall, the trip was successful, and the team was glad that the villagers were receptive and accepted them into their community.

“Through this trip, I have become a much more appreciative person and learnt that there is so much more things in life that we should start taking note of. I also learnt that helping others is actually helping myself to grow so much more as an individual. I would love to go on more volunteering trips.” Kerh Sujun, Education Main Committee Member
