This project is a long-term collaboration between the Shuangdong-Nanyang Primary School and Nanyang Business School. In the aftermath of the 2008 Sichuan Earthquake, NBS China EMBA alumni provided donations to fund the rebuilding of this school. However, the founding project team felt the more could be done for the future of these primary school children and since 2010, NBS students have been conducting English lessons in the school.
This year saw 26 volunteers making the trip to Sichuan and adopting an interesting, hands-on approach to ignite and sustain the students’ interest in the language. Through fun and interactive activities that included games, songs, dances, story-telling and other activities, the volunteers were not only able to build on what the students had already learnt, but also make memories for a lifetime.
志愿者老师们上课的时候都充满了热情。我真挚的感谢他们给双东小学的同学们带来新的知识和欢乐。同学们在这三个星期学到了很多课本里没有的东西，他们的生活也变得更加多姿多彩。
The volunteer teachers are very passionate during lessons. I would like to express my most sincere gratitude towards the volunteers as they have brought new knowledge and happiness to the children in Shuangdong-Nanyang Primary School. This project has broadened our students’ horizon and allowed them to gain exposure to the world outside China.
