Founded in 2009, the mission of the NTU Community Herb Garden is to provide herbs for research use and to the community.
Sited at the entrance of NTU, the Community Herb Garden is home to more than 300 species of tropical plants and herbs with natural medicinal properties. The Community Herb Garden is open to the public and has become a favorite spot for the heartland community and students of the University who drop by to bring home their choice of herbal plants for their own use. The Garden is best known for its harvested herbs. The herbs are distributed to the campus community as well as visitors, some of whom travel far and wide to obtain these rare herbs for their healing properties. Since the herbal plants are free, many leave behind a donation.
A student committee was also formed early this year with the intention of creating greater awareness for the Herb Garden and to encourage community gardening in NTU.
We want to create an NTU-brand Herb Garden Built by NTUians, for everyone. For kids, it’s a place with gems; for patients, it’s a place with hope… For us, it’s a place to give…

About the Herb Garden
The Community Herb Garden is located at the edge of the university, near the Jalan Bahar entrance. It has been awarded the Gold Award, as the Best New Garden award under the schools category, in the Community in Bloom Awards 2010.
While the herb garden covers 2 acres, 50% of the land is still left untouched. There is no charge for obtaining herbs from the garden if permission is granted and in return, many leave behind a donation. Though the university undertakes much of the costs of maintaining the garden, it recently established the NTU Community Herb Garden Endowment Fund to seek further financial support from the public.
Opening Hours: Monday – Friday, 9.00AM to 4.00PM. Closed on Saturday, Sunday & Public Holiday (By appointment only).
Interested parties who wish to visit the Community Herb Garden, may contact them directly at their Facebook Page.
