LIVE TURTLE AND TORTOISE MUSEUM:

VIRTUAL MUSEUM

The Live Turtle and Tortoise Museum was previously sited at Chinese Garden, an outdoor recreational park in Jurong East, Singapore, from 2004 – 2018. The lease was terminated by the government due to redevelopment plans for Chinese Garden that led the museum to be relocated to the northern corner of the country. In 2019, the museum moved to the Chencharu area in Yishun, Singapore.

The architectural façade of museum at Chinese Garden bears a unique resemblance to the ancient Chinese architecture with distinctive roofs. Upon entering the compound, one would have encountered a different universe as if being transported back to the past. Featuring an astounding number of approximately 600 live turtles and tortoises and 2,000 pieces of turtle or tortoises-themed things from all around the world, the museum is considered to be one-of-its-kind, suitable for visitors of all ages.

To preserve the history and memory of the museum as it existed at the Chinese Garden, our research team conducted a conservation project that resulted in a visual database of its museum artifacts. These are now available for students and scholars to study through the DR-NTU.

Below, we additionally present an interactive digital virtual documentation of the museum for all to experience and enjoy. This panorama requires you to access this site from a secure protocol.
