During an en bloc, an estranged mother and son decide which of their deceased father’s belongings to bring to their new house.
In our Singapore society, there is a huge emphasis on the family unit, be it in terms of holidays, policies, and general societal expectations of an ideal family. These societal expectations to be an ideal family imposes pressure on the family members. However, how often do we question our own expectations of each other as family members?
The Pieces We Keep is a short film that attempts to highlight issues of mismatched expectations in a family; as well as to encourage proper and respectful communication in a family.
Using themes and motifs on home, identity, local music and friendship, Go Home follows the two characters’ journey in finding themselves in each other amidst the changing landscapes and their changing identities. Set against our local landscape, Go Home explores the struggle of finding a sense of belonging people living in Singapore may face and how they come to terms with it.
While we get busy living our lives and moving on with each phase, this film hopes to encapsulate and remind people of the little moments we share with our friends around us – the ones who have seen us grow and the ones we can find a home in no matter where we are.
