Physical Sensitivity and Psychology of Sitting

Chairs are a big part of our daily lives that not many think about. They provide support for us and we sit on them for long durations not knowing the adverse effects it has on our physical and mental state. If sitting is detrimental for our well-being, why then do we constantly feel the need to sit?

This project features a series of seatings that would bring a sitter’s unconscious practice of sitting to their conscious attention. Due to the prolonged periods of sitting, many of us have lost our physical sensitivity towards sitting and end up being passive sitters. By designing these anthropomorphically shaped seats, it’s intention is to prompt a sitter to move or modify their sitting posture after a period of time.
