Nammi’s Mommy

Nammi’s Mommy is a series of pop-up picture books that seek to provide support towards caregivers in discussing concepts surrounding incarceration with young children of incarcerated parents, in a simplified and developmentally-suitable manner. The books explain the rehabilitation process to the children, and can also be used as an aid for caregivers to navigate these conversations with them. Through interactive visuals, Nammi’s Mommy hopes to better the children’s understanding and awareness level.

It also aims to shed a more positive light towards concepts surrounding incarceration as an attempt to challenge existing stigma and stereotypes attached. This project hopes to ease experiences of families caring for young children facing parental incarceration today and in the future.
