HERSTORY

HERSTORY is a look back at Singapore’s modern history through the lens of the women’s movement. How did policies affect women? Where did women stand, and what did they do to make Singapore the country it is today? This work aims to recognize and document the contributions and milestones of women in an exciting way that will appeal to the today’s youth. Using video, graphic design and augmented reality, HERSTORY will reveal the many significant watershed moments of the women’s movement in relation to our national history that we are familiar with.

Alone, Not Lonely

Living in a world of social connectivity has caused us to lose our ability to connect with ourselves. A “friendless” individual will often be seen as a lonely, isolated being. The concept of solitude has been embraced, yet the practice and reality of being alone has been frowned upon.

This project explores Singaporean millennials’ perception of solitude and proposes a step by step guide on how to appreciate solitude as a way of life towards improving physical, mental and emotional health.  By emphasising the need to focus on oneself through solitude, it can be a powerful method for achieving deep introspection, self-love and exponential personal growth.

This project aims to eradicate the fear of judgement of being seen alone and introduce the concept of the Spotlight Effect. Through a combination of interactive activities and experiential installation, ways of encountering solitude will be explored and will encourage the audience to be part of the solitude discovery experience.

Toilet Break

Toilet Break involves discovering the act of introspection and its value in relation to the pursuit of happiness in the 21st century. Introspection means simply an examination of one’s own thoughts and feelings. It is the act of looking within oneself. This project utilises the creative use of space to design an immersive spatial installation that attempts to materialise the transcendental experience of introspection. Through this immersive space, the project hopes to allow viewers to relate back to their thoughts and understand importance of introspection in balancing the complexities of life.
