解 /jiě/

What is a dream? A dream is a series of thoughts, images, and sensations occurring in a person’s mind during sleep. Dreams are special because they come in different shapes, sizes, forms and feels – realistic, yet unreal.

Everyone dreams, but not everyone remembers their dreams. “解 /jiě/” is an interactive installation that invites the audience to explore the idea of dreams and allows the audience to exercise creativity in the interpretation of my various dreams. This installation explores the use of shadows, where shadows are everything yet nothing at the same time. By using shadow as a medium of expression, audiences will therefore be encouraged to fill in the void with their creative imagination and immerse themselves in the created dream world.

Have you ever played with shadows during those sleepless nights of yours?

When I was young, my parents used to tuck me to bed early every night and I was so bored that I sought entertainment by casting shadows on the wall. Therefore, I would like to share these nostalgic memories with the younger generations as well as those who have the same sentiment as me.

‘Play-Dow!’ which can be interpreted as ‘Playing with Shadow’, is a night lamp that aims to add some fun elements to your kid’s room! The lamp is designed to resemble a puppetry shadow play. Not only that it depicts short bedtime stories but, as users turn the lamp shade, moving images will be cast on it. There will be more stories to come for ‘Play-Dow!’.  Users will be able to customise their lamp with their favourite fables.
