Concept & Creating Texture

Can water be our element?
A female adult is made up of approximately 55% water. This known fact technically makes us all the same despite how different we are. Water inspired me because of it’s importance and vitality in our lives. It’s fluidity, gracefulness and how it sparkles in the Sun is something I would like to mimic in my piece.

Fashion is more than expressing oneself, it expresses the era we are in. What we think and how we perceive. For years, fashion industry and women disintegrates women into categories. It sounds absurd to have not only the media body shaming people, most of the time, it’s women bringing each other down. My collection consist of three pieces (try my best), each modelled by females with very different personalities and body shapes.

Wearing the dresses, when they stand/walk side by side, the dresses will glow, symbolising the the beauty and power of us standing by one another. Having such an idea in mind, I hope my project not only enable ladies with different body size to feel proud of themselves, it also portray fashion to be more than trends, it is and can be a form of empowerment that brings people together.

This is one of the method used to create glitter apart from using Fibre Optic Fabric (FOF). Even though it doesn’t shine on its own, unlike FOF, but it is a good way of exploring and also, an alternative when the cost is too high for FOF.

By applying this method onto the fabric behind the translucent white, it’s able to mimic water when the Sun hits it, making it glisten and glow. In addition, there will more variety of cloth to choose from to apply this technique instead of plainly sticking to FOF, which may be stiffer.
