In his second book, Lawrence Anthony gives a more personal touch on how the bond between him and the wild elephant herd started, especially since elephants was not part of his plan for his Thula Thula game reserve at first. However, he knew he was their last chance of survival where they would have been killed if he did not take them in. During this bonding process, Anthony recounts the many twists and turns which lead him to learn life lessons of loyalty and freedom.
The battle to bond with the elephants to prevent them from their execution is a heartwarming and exciting story. Yet, the downside of making memories is the pain of loss. With Anthony’s passing, this book thus serves as a heart wrenching memoir of his experiences with these majestic creatures.
