Thula Thula Game Reserve

The Thula Thula game reserve was bought over and transformed into an award-winning safari lodge by Lawrence Anthony for people who wish to see wildlife up close. Using the money he earned from his previous insurance and real estate jobs, he acquired this enormous piece of land with hopes to create a sustainable place for both humans and animals alike. A long term goal of this space is to encourage generation of income through wildlife on a community-owned land. Local poverished residents who were once poachers, can now step up as protectors of their land while still earning their livelihood. It is a win-win situation for all involved!

Thula Thula was initially a massive hunting ground. But after his purchase of the land, Anthony scraped the sport completely and chose to restore it to its natural state. Thus, resulting in the present Thula Thula which is proudly teeming with wildlife that tourists can choose to observe in safari excursions where they explore the African bush in land rovers with the rangers. These species of animals include the white rhinos, giraffes, leopards and over 350 bird species.

This process was not easy however. Even till now, Anthony and his committed Thula Thula rangers do not have full protection over the land. As 5000 acres of land is too huge and vast to guard, there still remains poachers who are hiding in the vast reserve waiting to hunt the indigenous species available.

The Thula Thula game reserve also serves as the personal home to Lawrence Anthony and his family. After his passing, the reserve is now run by his wife and family.
