Unavailability

“It is really difficult to find green cleaning products in the supermarket.”

Many people complain that their initial effort to go green cleaning has been burnt down by the unavailability of green cleaning products nearby.

Today I went to Nanyang Market, which is the main convenience store in NTU campus, and tried to see if they sold any Green Label laundry detergent or floor cleaner or dishwashing liquid. The results: none.

But again, the majority of cleaning products in Singapore do not put the Green Label on their packaging. So I went around and looked for the alternatives: baking soda, vinegar, and lemon. Although lemons were available, surprisingly, baking soda and vinegar were not within sight. This fact is quite disappointing as NTU is currently promoting itself as a green campus.

I also went to one supermarket in the nearby mall and, fortunately, found quite a few choices of green cleaning products. Although the quantity is still much defeated by other conventional products, the availability of these green products in this supermarket is already encouraging for people nearby, especially NTU students, who want to start their green cleaning habit. Furthermore, since the supermarket has many branches across Singapore, there is high possibility that other people Singapore are able to get these products.

Finding green cleaning products, therefore, is not really difficult, but it requires a little extra effort.
