Jacques-Yves Cousteau was an author, a French navy officer, explorer, conservationist, filmmaker, innovator, photographer, researcher and scientist. He made many inventions, one of which is the Aqua-Lung and was an internationally renowned television celebrity. He educated masses of people about the seas and its inhabitants through his films and television series. He was also actively involved in marine conservation.
