Current Achievements

Karisoke Research Center has come a long way since 1967. Below are a list (not exhausive) of their current achievements.

  • Increased tracking and anti-poaching staff
  • Increase in gorilla population from 2003 to 2010, with the greatest number of increase spotted at areas monitored by Karisoke
  • Supports public education and ecotourism
  • Expanding research to support other rare local species of plants and animals
  • Operation of a facility for rescued gorillas
  • Providing primary school students with lesson materials
  • Conducting conservation programs for secondary school students
  • Trained local park staff and other conservation partners with biodiversity knowledge.
