Most of the previous tabs have mainly focused about the conservation efforts by the Singapore Government & the Nparks as they played a large part in implementing and devising the schemes and plans for conservation. However, we must always remember that environmental responsibility does not lies only with the government. Both the public and private sector has a role to play too.
It is heartwarming to see that all the stakeholders are already in the action of conservation and working well in many of the examples cited in this blog. For example, the red data book and those volunteering and outreaching programs. As seen in the Strategy 4 for the Master Plan for Conservation of Singapore’s Habitat, many interest groups and individuals have also came up with their own programs to help with the conservation. On the other hand, private companies also did their parts in various way and one way was to provide sponsorship. Charity like the Gardencity Funds were also set up. Individuals have also stepped up to volunteers and many more many initiatives were established. NParks also actively encourage the contribution of ideas by public and from August 2011 to date, more than 8000 ideas were contributed through various platforms. They have plans to implement some of these suggestions and are also looking into collaboration with other government agencies for ideas that are of a bigger scale. All these are impossible without the people.
In conclusion, everyone has a role to play when it comes to turning our country into the City in Garden and have also did so. I hope that this teamwork is maintained well or even become better in the near future as our future generations are more exposed to conservation issues. No matter how small an effort might be, if everyone played a part and work well together, this small effort will have a ripple effect and eventually result in a great change to save our habitat.
