Strategy 5: Strengthen Partnerships with All Stakeholders and Promote International Collaboration

Conservation efforts are most likely to be effective if it engage the efforts of all stakeholders. Good partnerships are good starts to successful conservation and these partnerships should not be limited to within the country. Partnerships should also be brought into regional, or even international level as biodiversity issue is an issue that is happening worldwide.

Therefore, we must:
1. Encourage active participation in the stewardship of the
environment for all sectors.

From regional sector all the way down to the individuals, active participation in the management of the environment was always encourage and many different kinds action plans can be done.

The Singapore Environment Council actually recognizes companies in Singapore that took on the stewardship of the environment in different sectors since 1997 and present them the Singapore Environmental Achievement Awards. The picture below shows the corporations that won the awards and what are the awards in 2013.

2. Promote partnerships with regional and international organisations

This especially apply to promoting partnership with the ASEAN Centre for Biodiversity and the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity.

Singapore is now a member of the ASEAN Centre for Biodiversity (ACB) and also signed the Convention on Biological Diversity to show our commitment to conserve biodiversity at the global level. As a member of the ACB, Singapore played its part to co-organise and host activities with the ACB. It also benefited from the information, experiences and practices shared by other members. Therefore, partnership with international collaboration organisation has been well established.
