There has been a strong conservation presence in the Lower Kinabatangan Wildlife Sanctuary over the years. There is a growing number of local and international non-governmental organizations and research stations which are organizing and implementing eco-tourism projects with the agenda of reforesting previously destroyed areas to allow greater connectivity between forest fragments. While preventing the further intrusion of oil palm plantations into nearby habitats. Already, these schemes appear to be generating some success as proboscis Monkey populations are observed to be stabilising over time. (Stark DJ et al. , 2012)
