Personal Care

Body wash, shampoo, sunscreen, perfumes, toothpaste, nail polish, shaving cream — these are all common personal care products and toiletries we use on a daily basis and our body absorbs the ingredients that make up these products. Children absorb more chemicals into their bodies compared to adults so if these personal care products lying around the house have any one or more of the following, it may be best to just switch to organic and organic-based personal care products as soon as possible for your home.

Common chemicals and carcinogens in personal care products and cosmetics:
Dioxane, phthalates, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), diethanolamine (DEA), formaldehyde, coal tar, lead, mercury, nanoparticles, parabens, polysorbates, oxybenzone, petrochemicals, hydroquinone, p-phenylenediamine, toluene, dibutyl phthalate, oxybenzone.

Many of these chemicals have been linked to cause serious health problems, including hormone imbalances, learning disabilities, birth defects, various neurological disorders, skin irritation, cell damage and allergies to name a few. Do you honestly want such toxic substances to be in your home, absorbed into yours and your childrens’ bodies?

National Geographic’s Green Guide states that it is recommended to choose from products that contain no more than 10 ingredients as the fewer ingredients there are, the lesser the chances that the product is made from one of the many harmful chemicals out there.

✿ P.S, I know how difficult it must be to make the switch to a holistic organic lifestyle, especially when most products in our household are from conventional brands. One tip would be that whenever a product finishes, take the step to switch to an organic alternative and stick to organic-only brands for that product from then on. Slowly but surely, you would find yourself turning your entire household into an organic living household.
