Medicinal Poaching

Elephant has been poached as their dung and molar tooth were perceived to have medicinal effects.

Elephant’s dung has been shown to cure childhood diseases associated with close births, bone fractures, oedema, and elephantiasis. Firstly, to cure childhood diseases, one just needs to use the dung as enema or smear it on the sick child’s body. Secondly, to cure bone fractures and et cetera, one just need to mix the dung with herbs and smear on affected part.

Next, an elephant’s molar tooth can hear cure toothache by boiling it in water and the subsequent liquid is used as mouthwash (Wildlife utilisation and food security in Africa, n.d.).
