Ian McEwan’s Atonement was shortlisted for the 2001 Booker Prize for fiction. The story revolves around 13-year-old Briony Tallis and a critical incident that she witnessed between her older sister Cecilia and Robbie Turner, their housekeeper’s son. But Briony’s incomplete grasp of adult motives and her imagination lead her to accuse Robbie of a crime he did not commit. Subsequently, this incident changes the lives of all three of them and led Briony to a life-long quest of finding atonement for her childhood misdeed.
