Our Project

Project Overview

Our goal is to build a bimodal (visual and acoustic) telepresence robot for remote surveillance in different situations such as for disaster relief situations and military reconnaissance. Of course, the project can be adapted for other interesting applications such as exam invigilation and a real-time live streaming station! Other functions can definitely be added on during future work. 

 


Virtual telepresence is common among existing robots and prototypes but what stand out about our robot is its live-streaming capabilities and binaural acoustic telepresence that can aid sound localization under low visibility circumstances.

 

Birth of our idea

It was on a spur of the moment that we decided to change our project to a telepresence robot after realising the complexities we foresee with our first ideas. A telepresence robot is evidently not the easiest to work with considering our limited background knowledge but we find the challenge welcoming. With a little more effort and teamwork, we might just be able to overcome all obstacles faced. What we learnt about robotics during the entire journey is that we always have to keep an open mind and have the willingness to explore new solutions when one thing doesn’t work out. Eventually, if you have the will, you will probably have the way. ✨
