LA Mount Mk II
We came in the morning to find that our LA Mount Mk II finished printing, but it was bent. 😭
Trying to make the most out of the situation, we mounted our stepper motor and piston structure onto the LA mount to test if the dimensions work. Although the dimensions for the holes fit, we realised that the height of the LA mount was slightly too short. Hence, we decided to glue or tape a block below the structure to elevate the structure so the piston would not hit the table.

Our print kept failing – bending, getting printed out of frame – so it took many tries before we finally decided to use a raft to support our structure. Hopefully by tomorrow we will get a perfect LA mount/bracket!
…Moments after typing that, our print failed again. 😰 Seems like the CR10 printer really has something against our design. So, Tony helped us to set up the Extreme 2000 to print our LA mount/bracket. We’ll come back tomorrow and see how that turns out!
Brackets for Aluminium Frame
From yesterday, we decided to improve on our design for the connector. So far, we have two different designs:
Option 1 | Bracket connected to printer
For this, we modified it by adding in 2 more holes for stronger support, as well as shifting the position of the holes for better alignment.
Option 2 | Bracket connected to aluminium profiles
For this, we modified it by adding in an additional cavity for the two aluminium profiles that carries the linear actuator.
In the end, we managed to print out the Major Bracket Mk II, though it was out of alignment.

For the rest of the day, we aim to finish printing out all our brackets so we can mount them together tomorrow. Subsequently, we will figure out how to attach our external tube near to the linear actuator. Our current idea is something shaped like a square disc.
See you tomorrow! Fingers crossed that everything works out well 🤞🏻
