Individual Contribution and Reflection

Summary of Individual Contribution

Xinpei: Building of the first drone, and worked on the landing using OpenCV to achieved precision landing. Research on drone dynamics and source items needed for the drone.

Josie: Building of the first drone, Financial Controller (FC), Product acquisition for the items needed, and managing the blog.

Tailai: Release Mechanism (electromagnet & trap door version) and Building of Second Drone

Jerome: Release Mechanism (Trap Door version), build the second Drone, and Updating the blog.

Yu Han: configure python code for the release mechanism.

Reflections

Xinpei: This course offers me a unique learning experience as it empowers me to try to design a drone from scratch which has been my dream for years. With the resources available at M&T lab, I was able to achieve this dream and implement many cool ideas into the design of the drone. Although there are some problems along the way, I am really happy to work with the rest of my teammate and achieve what many thoughts are impossible. My Contributions were Building the first drone, achieving autonomous flight and precision landing using OpenCV.

Tailai:

Josie: I took up this course to learn something that was out of my comfort zone. As a Communication studies and Business major, I had to relearn physics and know the building blocks of the drone. I learnt how to solder and connect wires to the components. . On top of that, I learnt all the necessary components required to calibrate the drone – accelerometer (levels), GPS, ESC, PID, and even CG. I got into this course because of Xin Pei. He was very interested in Drones and I thought this would be a great opportunity to learn something new during the summer break. I enjoyed playing with the DJI Drones and learnt Python to understand the software side of things. My contributions include Building of the first drone, being the Financial Controller (FC), product acquisition, Communication Manager, Marketing and Managing the blog.

Jerome: As a physics major going through this course, it has taught me valuable skills and how to use tools that are so integral to engineers. It was also rather enriching in that it gave me the opportunity to see how fundamental physics concepts are connected or intelligently exploited in so many technologies that our world so depend on.
