NTU Library currently operates seven subject libraries and is building a strong team of professional librarians to provide access to valuable print and electronic resources and create new services and tools to guide our users. Professional librarians perform dual roles. In addition to a functional role each librarian is appointed as subject librarian for a particular subject discipline.
Responsibilities:
• Especially in relation to Chinese language materials:
o Handle requests and enquiries and source and expedite purchases and donations
o Evaluate, select and maintain effective vendor relations with booksellers and suppliers
o Work closely with other librarians on collection development matters
• Undertake the role of a subject librarian in a specific discipline; including collection building, reference, liaison, teaching and promotion of library services.
Qualifications and Requirements:
For a librarian level appointment a Masters degree or Graduate Diploma in library and information science from a recognized university AND a good undergraduate degree is required. For an Assistant Librarian position a good undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline such as science or engineering and a willingness to undertake the NTU Masters in Information Studies degree part-time is necessary.
Essential:
• Strong proficiency in the Chinese language (for acquisitions work)
• Subject background in science or engineering
• Strong service orientation
• Proficiency in the use of technology
• Ability to communicate well with colleagues and users in individual and group settings
• Ability to work independently, as well as in a team
Desirable:
• Sound experience in an academic library setting
• Teaching or training experience
