The Merror at NTU ADM Portfolio

Memes are jokes in the form of pictures or videos that spread from person to person, and are commonly expressed as text overlaid over funny pictures. Memes today are an excellent tool of communication, and have come a long way from being silly jokes passed around on the Internet. They are now used to communicate information about almost anything, from social issues to personal problems and even marketing efforts.

My project is a commentary on the large amount of information communicated through memes today, and gets people to question if memes can ever be a credible source of information. How much can we trust information that is communicated through anonymously created memes, and could memes ever replace traditional forms of communication?

I seek to do this through a fictional news company called The Merror, which communicates news solely through memes. The Merror is a combination of the words ‘Meme’ and ‘Mirror’. ‘Mirror’ is a common name in newspapers that seek to portray a reflection of that particular country/society. In a similar vein, The Merror is a fictional paper that casts a reflection on a society where important information like news is transmitted only through memes, and prompts viewers to think about how much we can trust information in memes.
