Founded in 2021, the moonbeam co. is a sustainable food-tech startup that aims to tackle food waste (brewer’s spent grains or BSGs for short) through technology. BSGs are typically discarded due to their poor texture, and this is a pity because it is filled with protein and fibre.

The team have developed a proprietary process to alter the texture of BSGs, so that they are crispy, akin to oats, to allow for substitution. When used, it confers the protein and fibre that would otherwise be discarded and incinerated – this would solve two concerns at the same time: food waste and food security.
