One of the main focus of 2018’s Year of Climate Action is to instil awareness among citizens and inspire them to act.
This is a top-down approach, starting from the Government – where climate actions are already “well-embedded” in our developmental policies. Next, collective effort is needed to create an impact towards climate actions. Finally, on a daily basis, it is just as important for individuals to incorporate these climate actions into their lives. Refer to the info-graphics below to see the desired individual behaviours (not exhaustive).
Alongside with external (government) and internal (community) behavioural control, individuals might be able to sustain climate actions in the long-term.
Prompts are often circulated to encourage individuals to act. Framing of the message is important – how they message is described. Instead of “saved”, “wasted” could be a better word to convey higher severity of costs (refer to example below).
