All things green

“For in the true nature of things, if we rightly consider, every green tree is far more glorious than if it were made of gold and silver”

-Martin Luther

What comes to mind when you think of a park? What about a tree? Grass? Hills?

Look around you, grass, trees, hills and even some dustbins in the park are green. This mixture of blue and yellow can be seen everywhere, especially if you happen to live in an ‘ulu’ area of Singapore like me! Even if you do not, most if not all areas of Singapore are covered with greenery (including city areas, thanks to green landscaping in Singapore!), and you are bound to notice them as you go about your daily life.

If I had to ascribe a colour to nature it would probably be green, there is just something so serene and special about it. Did you know that the colour green is soothing to our eyes. Scientists discovered that our eyes best detect wavelengths of corresponding to that of the colour green. This wavelength is about 550 nanometers. Thus we strain our eyes less when perceiving green objects, which calms us down too! This is why looking at nature floods us with a sense of peace and tranquility.
