Life Expectancy in Malawi

The mean life expectancy at birth is 63.8 years (2018), almost 10 years fewer than the world average of 72.6 years. High prevalence of HIV/AIDS and a poor healthcare system explains the difference. Unsanitary living conditions and a lack of access to potable water also promote the spread of diseases. The situation is worsened by population growth as the country’s infrastructure and resources are unable to support and improve the system.
