Conservation of natural heritage

Ever since the founding of Singapore, we have evolved from a rural developing country to a urbanized environment. This led to clearing of most of our primary forests and natural vegetation. In the midst of the rapid industrialization and urbanization, it is very vital to keep in mind the importance of our natural heritage.  One of the aim of ‘Garden in a City’ is the conservation of natural heritage. Conserving natural heritage implies the keeping of certain essence of the old city, giving this island a ‘soul’. Parks like Fort Canning Park and Hortpark are historic parks. On top of being preserved, both also has urban infrastructures to complement them. Other than conserving natural reserves, it is said that urban landscape with proper management can also promote the conservation of urban biodiversity and our natural heritage.
