One of the objective of the Indian Science and Technology (S&T) Policy is to ensure that the message of science reaches every citizen of India, man and woman, young and old, so that we advance scientific temper, emerge as a progressive and enlightened society and make it possible for all our people to participate fully in the development of S&T and its application for human welfare. To promote and facilitate this noble cause. We need the strong base and support of S&T libraries in our country as we know that globally the current scenario of library and information science teaching, practices and principles has drastically changed due to the current and future user‘s information needs and application of ICT. Dr. Harish Chandra is the Librarian of Indian Institute of Technology Madras. He obtained Library Automation Training from University of Cambridge and Digital Library from University of Tilburg. His contributions areas are patent information services, ISO-9001:2008, digital library, RFID, Smart Card, library building planning, information literacy. He is member of the Senate of IIT Madras, Member Secretary, Library Advisory Committee. Editor-in-Chief, SALIS Journal of Library and Information Science. National Consultant (Library Management) for a World Bank project. He has published 100 publications, delivered 200 talks, organised Conferences. He is the President of SLA- Asian Chapter, Member of Standing Committee of IFLA, 2009-2013(RIS). He has received various awards including The 2011 Science-Technology and Engineering Divisions of The SLA Bonnie Hilditch International Librarian Award and also the 2010 SLA Asian Professional Award.
