Turbosail was a ship powered by the wind. This was preferred as it was a clean, free and renewable energy source. Cousteau invented it by improving on the idea of using a hollow, rotating metal cylinder for propulsion. The thrust coefficient of Turbosail was 3.5 to 4 times better than the best sails then and even had an added economical advantage as it used renewable energy.
