UNDERWATER NUCLEAR WASTE DUMPING

In the 1960s, Cousteau stopped the French from underwater dumping nuclear waste in the Mediterranean Sea. He organised a popular campaign against French government and took his fight straight to the president. He strongly believed that the French government should not deal with waste they do not know much about.

RESTRICTED COMMERCIAL WHALING

Cousteau convinced world leaders to vote for the banning of commercial whaling to help the International Whaling Commission pass a moratorium on commercial whaling in 1986. It is still in place today.
