Can this be replicated?

This may not be replicable since there are many factors that have come together to make panda conservation a success: high appeal to humans, diplomatic value, strong support by government.

No one animal has this same exact mix of traits that would allow for replication of this phenomenon to the same extent. While certain animals , such as the bald eagle, have multiple factors such as support by government and charisma, they do not enjoy the same amount of celebrity as giant pandas.

One of the most important functions of pandas is as symbols. Likewise, the change in panda’s endangered status is important as a symbol. It shows that endangered animals can be brought back from the brink of extinction. This good news would booster greater hope and optimism in conservationists all over the world and egg on other forms of conservation efforts. The public would also feel that their donations made a difference and would be driven to donate more to pandas and even other endangered species. It is also believed that due to the change in status of the pandas and seeing the benefits it brings, the Chinese Government has increased its conservation efforts for other animals as well. However, there is not much information available on this.

While other species do lack the same natural advantages that have helped the pandas capture humans’ attention or may face more dire threats, if enough resources are devoted to their cause, the species could recover. It is not the animal or its factors that determine the success of conservation but rather, the amount of resources and effort put into saving them. Thus, although these animals would not have the experience of the pandas, they can still be saved.
