Powershift was an awareness campaign created in 2000 by Severn Cullis-Suzuki and 5 of her university classmates who are passionate about raising environmental awareness across Canada.
By cycling across Canada, they hoped to raise awareness about air quality by promoting the David Suzuki Foundation’s Clean Air Campaign. In addition, this bike trip served as an investigation of the safety of cycling routes in Canada, promoting cycling as a means of transport since it does not contribute to air pollution.
