The Snow Leopard Trust first started its involvement in Pakistan in 1995. The country contains 80,000 km2 worth of snow leopard habitat and is home to approximately 200 to 420 snow leopards. Due to the small number of endangered leopards here as compared to other countries like China, the Snow Leopard Trust partnered with the the Snow Leopard foundation (SLF) which only has 3 full time and 7 part-time staff involved in the conservation efforts in Pakistan.

Threats to Snow Leopards in this region include:

  • Habitat Fragmentation
  • Illegal Hunting
  • Retaliatory Killing
  • War and military activities

Conservation Programs:

  • Snow Leopard Enterprises
  • Research Cameras: The cameras are focused on a specific 400km2 area which is predetermined. This standard area size helps them to mark out the regions they are studying to ensure more accurate results for easy comparison.
  • Conservation Education Programs
