This excessive earthwork could lead to increased siltation in the extensive network of forest streams. As monkeys are highly dependent on stream water quality, drinking contaminated water can pose serious health threats.

When certain areas in the forest are cordon off for investigative work to take place, this could restrict the monkeys’ activity and movements in the forest. As banded leaf monkeys are highly sensitive to disturbance, underground investigative works may frighten these naturally shy and private individuals.
