Banded Leaf Monkey

BLM

The banded leaf monkey, also known as banded surili or banded langur, is believed to be one of the three non-human primates (the other being Sunda slow loris and long-tailed macaque) native to Singapore.

Born to the primate family of Old World Monkeys, banded surili has an average adult body mass of 6 kilograms and can grow up to 59 centimeters long with a tail length of up to 76 centimeters.

This species has a slender build covered with dorsal fur that ranges between dark grey-brown and black. Their given name, banded, is believed to be due to their distinctive white band down its chest. They differ from most of the other species of leaf monkey by characteristics of a round head with brow ridges, and dark delicate facial features.

Infants are born white or beige, with black strip at the back.
