According to the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN), the banded leaf monkey is listed as near threatened with a declining population trend. In 2011, there is only a small population of approximately 40 individuals left in Singapore Central Catchment Nature Reserve.

Due to the country’s rapid urbanisation, deforestation and low population size would appear to be the major threats to this species.
