The Memories I Hold In The Name Of You
Singapore is a small country with limited land resources, which has made land scarcity an ongoing issue across various sectors and one of the significant impacts is on the management of burial spaces in the country. The project aims to promote sea burial by designing the first coastal facility for post-death rites in Singapore, located at Changi Beach. Using the current technology to generate unique forms inspired by the corals found in the country and applying machine learning techniques to recognise each specific forms that will create an interactive experience on the site.
The facility provides a sheltered area for the bereaved to do their last rites before setting off to sea. It also includes four cylindrical rooms that allow the bereaved to go back to pay respect during the death anniversary or any important dates. By using machine learning to recognise the coral that was specifically generated using the data collected during the point of release, it replaces the current use of niches & burial space to a place that can be reused again and again.
