We are mainly using stepper motors for the drawing up and dispensing of liquid by the syringe and the pipette.
Stepper motors are advantageous because it allows for high precision, especially when working with syringes where the volume is determined by how much the plungers is pulled up. They are also advantageous for use with pipettes because there are 2 depression levels for the pipette we are working with, and the stepper motor provides enough force to push on the plunger, as well as to control up to the second depress, and the full depress.
