Prototype 1
Our very first prototype for the syringe adapter was designed using the “slotting in” idea in mind so that we can have the versatility of using different syringes for our machine. This prototype was designed for the NEMA17 motor with the 3D printed backing and the Machifit linear rail.
The slot adapter was also designed to be attached to the linear rail.
Prototype 2
In the second prototype, which is designed for the Z-axis slide table, we were using the idea of “sandwiching” to insert the adapters to the Z-axis slide table.
Prototype 3
In the third prototype, we started to incorporate the idea of using screws to hold the adapters in place.
Prototype 4
We improved on our third prototype to ensure a better and more stable fit to the Z-axis slide table.
Prototype 5
Although the fourth prototype was working well, we had to redesign the syringe adapter as we decided to invert the orientation of the Z-axis slide table vertically.
Final prototype
We modified the bottom adapter from the fifth prototype slightly by increasing the thickness at different sections. The reason for doing so was because our syringe couldn’t reach 0 mL and 1 mL mark when we push down and pull up the plunger due to the constraints in the length of the Z-axis slide table.
