Insomnia is a well-known, widespread sleeping disorder that creates difficulties in initiating sleep and achieving a refreshing rest without any disruptions.
But what truly unfolds during the nocturnal hours of someone dealing with insomnia? πππ°π΄π¦ π π°πΆπ³ ππΊπ¦π΄ is an interactive installation that allows you to experience the complexity and layers of an individualβs journey with insomnia. This immersive experience invites viewers to take rest while encountering unsettling sounds and visuals. It is an invitation to observe the insomniac or ππ¦ the insomniac.
How it works: TouchDesigner for the visuals projected on the screen above the bed, is connected to Ableton Live which plays the audio of a guided meditation/audio piece when triggered by the button hidden under the pillow when someone lies down. Two microphones, one on the floor to detect the live sound of people’s footsteps and one on the wall to detect the live audio whispers and surround sound around the room is connected to both Ableton Live and TouchDesigner. The live audio is then manipulated and triggers reactive visuals on the screen.
Instructions: To get the full immersive experience, put on the headphones while laying down fully on the bed. Ensure that your head is resting on the pillow and do not move. Listen to the audio. You can also walk on the black area on the floor and whisper your fears onto the microphone on the wall.
