The Southern Cassowary is a critically endangered bird numbering less than a 1000 in the wild. A “rainforest gardener” which is vital to the maintenance of forests, and the only direct descendant of the dinosaurs which are already extinct, Australia Zoo is determined to save the species.
Along with other Australian zoos, Australia Zoo has joined the Rainforest Rescue in its Save the Cassowary Campaign. Australia Zoo displays the “Save the Cassowary” signs at their Cassowary enclosures to raise awareness of the campaign, and educates the visitors on the plight of these birds and the need to save the endangered species. Australia Zoo also runs special events to raise funds to protect the Southern Cassowary.
