With all the different implementations in place, improvements have definitely been made from all the support given by individuals and corporations.

Large corporations such as Singtel and Courts Asia have played their role in moving towards an environmentally responsible dining policy by not including shark fin during their corporate functions. These corporations have also pledged to not be involved in any promotions of shark fin products.

Mr Terry O’Connor, Chief Executive Officer for Courts Asia mentioned this, “As a responsible corporate entity, it is our role to look at practices that may be harmful to the environment and then implement change to shift mind sets.”

Recently, on the 12th of June 2014, Singapore’s Marina Bay Sands casino has also banned the serving of shark fin dishes in their restaurants and official events.

At the same time, hotels such as The Fullerton Singapore and Hilton Singapore have also pledged to not serve and offer shark fin dishes and products in their hotels in order to protect the shark population.

With this visible efforts made by the corporations and hotels, the demand for shark fins will definitely decrease and thus improving the problem of decreasing shark population.

It was reported in the South China Morning Post, the Census and Statistics Department of Hong Kong that the amount of shark fins being imported have reduced from 10292 tons in 2011 to 3087 tons in November 2012 after the introduction of the different implementations. A 50% reduction of sales was also recorded in the same year.
