Both the ecosystem and sharks are interdependent on each other for their survival. Sharks feed on prey which are old, sick or slow to ensure that the population that they prey upon is healthy. Some are also found to be feeding on the dead carcasses found on the sea floor. Sharks play an important role in maintaining the population size of other marine animals to prevent them from getting too populous and in turn bringing harm to the ecosystem. They also help to prevent the outbreak and spread of diseases from the sick marine animals which can be devastating.
